From Arrival to Belonging: Honouring Windrush Generations (July 2025)

The Windrush Handcrafted Quilts Exhibition was more than an event; it was a living archive. Photographs and the woven tapestry of quilts spoke to creativity and resilience. As I walked among the displays, I felt the weight of history pressing against my own story. And in that sacred space, I was invited to contribute.

My contribution came in the form of a poem ~ bespoke, crafted with love, holding the voices of people that have impacted my life. I wanted to honour the Windrush generation with words that carried both reverence and celebration. Each line was shaped by their reflection: The rhythm of the sea that carried them, the cadence of voices that built communities, the pulse of music and faith that sustained them.

But the Windrush story is not finished. It continues in every act of remembrance, in every poem,. in every exhibition, and in every life touched by its legacy. So happy to have played a small part...
